New writers need not despare if they can't find a publisher to buy or option their manuscript. With the Print on Demand equipment making the scene in may shops now, an aspiring writer can be a published writer without the backing of the multi million dollar publishing houses. Use the Google search engine and look for "print on demand" for book publishers who can print one or ten thousand books.
